The KL2 Clinical and Translational Science Scholars Program for junior faculty, offered by the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE), is a multidisciplinary career development program supported by the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) through the KL2 mechanism. This highly competitive program offers 75% salary support for 5 years to provide protected time to conduct preliminary research for a career development award. Scholars are expected to apply for a K Award or another career development award in the first year of the program.
The program seeks to:
- provide rigorous didactic training that encompasses a broad spectrum of research methodologies, technologies, concepts and research tools
- immerse scholars in multidisciplinary research and provide teaching in leadership, management, and team building
- provide multidisciplinary mentoring and career guidance and experiences in the conduct of clinical and translational research from conceptualization to completion
- guide scholars in the development and submission of competitive grant applications, thereby helping them secure research funding to become successful independent clinical researchers
