Managing a research project can be likened to conducting an orchestra, directing rush-hour traffic, or coaching a basketball team. All around you, things are happening, often simultaneously, and everyone involved is looking to you, the principal investigator, for direction because it’s your show. You’re in charge. You’re the person who wrote the grant application and received the funding. You’ll conduct the research and oversee the support of your lab or direct the clinical trial. And even though you might delegate a share of the responsibility to a co-investigator, project coordinator, and others on your team, you are the one ultimately responsible for the results. Now, as you prepare to launch your study, there are countless details requiring attention.
