Clinical and Translational Science Institute Preparing Grant Proposals and Securing Research Funding Preparing For A Study Conducting A Study Completing A Study Implementing The Results

Once you’ve secured research funding and established a budget, you’ll need to begin the process of staffing your laboratory or hiring your research team, which is a significant step for two reasons: (1) personnel costs are not insignificant, and (2) the people you hire can determine, to a large extent, the success of your research. Businessman and author Larry Bossidy, speaking from the corporate perspective, once said, “I am convinced that nothing we do is more important than hiring and developing people. At the end of the day you bet on people, not on strategies.” His point is equally applicable to research employment, regardless of whether you are engaged in staffing a basic research project or staffing a clinical research project.
