Our Innovation Facilitators have experience in innovation-associated aspects of translation, including intellectual property protection and the technology licensing process. They serve as liaisons with institutional offices to facilitate navigation of the commercialization process. This includes assistance with submissions of invention disclosures, patent applications, high-level market analysis, industry comparable analysis, business model development, and commercialization decision points. For example, a translational investigator could be at a decision point on product specifications that would result in either an FDA Biologics License Application or an Investigational Device Exemption. Although the regulatory pathways for each may be relatively clear, the innovation team would need to make a strategic commercial translation decision based on whether the climate for investors or industry partners favored one pathway versus the other. In collaboration with an IIR, Innovation Facilitators guide an investigator through this process.
