About Multidisciplinary Acute Care Research Organization (MACRO)
MACRO is a joint clinical trials enterprise led by the Departments of Critical Care Medicine, Surgery, PACCM and Emergency Medicine with an emphasis on acute care. MACRO provides a unique opportunity to bring research to the participants by providing resources for investigators and participants in the acute care setting, such as the emergency department, ICU, and operating room. A key service provided by MACRO is 24/7 screening and enrollment of research participants. As of June 2016, MACRO coordinates over 40 studies by 29 principal investigators in 10 departments and divisions, serves as overall Coordinating Center for five multicenter trials, and supports Pitt within two NIH trial networks (NETT, PETAL).
Our currently enrolling studies can be found here: https:www.ccm.pitt.edu/macro/actively-recruiting-studies
MACRO's overall mission is to facilitate clinical research led by dedicated investigators in an ethical, fiscally sound, and regulatory compliant manner. Dr. David Huang serves as overall Director, succeeding Dr. Scott Gunn whose founding leadership helped MACRO flourish and grow in response to increasing investigator needs. Drs. Clifton Callaway, Jason Sperry, Bryan McVerry, and Mazen Zenati serve as co-Directors and represent their Departments. MACRO will continue to organically build on its past accomplishments, streamline operations, and contribute to fostering a culture of research within daily clinical and educational activities.
